Thewet Flower Market & Chrao Phraya River

by Yin Teing on September 19, 2009

The flower market is located about 30 min walk from Khao San area. You can reach there by taking bus no 53 (the staff in the guesthouse had kindly brought me there by bus).

It is not as big as the main flower market but as the area is near Khao San, I figured that will do.

The Flower Market is located along a long road which ends at Chao Phraya River Thelwet Pier.

Above: Thais will give the red and yellow flowers (needle shape) to their teachers on Teachers Day as a symbolic appreciation of their teachers for imparting knowledge for them. The green flower (with the small white flower) is given to mother as a gesture of appreciation for her unconditional sacrifice.

Chrao Phraya River

A lot of life animals are also sold nearby- at first I was worried they are sold for slaugther but was relieved when my Thai friend informed me that it was for merit making- releasing to the river.

Fishes, real real huge ones thrives in this river. As this river is located near a temple, locals will release fishes to the river or buy bread (available in huge packs for just 15 baht) to feed the fishes.

From the pier, I parted way with my Thai friend and walked back to the guesthouse (I stayed in Khao San that time) to take a rest. Send of some postcards to friends at a post office and brought some food from a local market along the way.

Many shops and stores along the journey.
