Inside a Buddha statue workshop

by Yin Teing on October 18, 2009

Thailand produces some of the most magnificient Buddha statues that I’ve ever seen. The craftmanship is truly excellent.

I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to visit a place that we can see how Buddha statues are being made.

A lot of work has to be done. Example, the Buddha statues on both the pictures above and below are made of marble- first, a huge marble stone is bought and carved from stratch.

Below: The Buddha image has been carved- and it will be repainted.

This is an example of an almost finished Buddha statue. We asked the owner- it is sold at a shop near Mae Sai for about 350000 or 380ooo baht (RM35k to RM38k).
