Bar-B-Q Plaza in Thailand

Food and Drinks, Menu

I was introduced to Bar-B-Q Plaza by my host while staying in Thailand. In Malaysia and Singapore, there are similar themed outlets but the price is much more expensive. You would be surprised at the price that you need to pay- if you come in a group of 10 people and order lots of meat, the price often does not come to 3000 baht.

We recently went to have our meals in Bar-B-Q. Thais usually call the shop Bar-B-Gon. When you arrive, you would be seated on a table with a non stick BBQ pan like below. You can use the menu to order the food that you want- there are ala carte or set meals.

The waiter would pour the soup and provide you with a generous serving of sliced cabbage while your order gets processed:

First, the waiter would pour a little soup which would trickle to the round edges of the pan. You would also be given pork lard (so it is definitely not halal ya) to use to ‘oil’ the surface. Then you place the meat slices, seafood or fish that you have ordered on top to cook while the bottom is the soup. You can also add cabbage at the soup area:

You can eat your meat as it is or dipped in the sweet sauce with options of mixing the grounded chilis and garlics that are provided. I usually order a bowl of rice and would put the grounded garlics and chilis in my rice.

I love the bacon, it is really nice. One thing is the slices are freshly prepared.

As the food, cooks, the taste would travel to the soup, this adding flavour to the soup.

Bar-B-Q Plaza also have some fried items like wonton and mushrooms that I really like. We usually cannot resist ordering them.

At first I had thought that eating at such restaurants would be expensive like it is in other countries. But it is like so much of cold cuts and the price comes up to roughly about 200 baht to 250 baht per person… inclusive of ordering rice, side dishes, drinks and desserts. Even fastfood in Thailand cost about 150 baht for a set meal that is filling enough and food court meal is close to 100 baht. Quite reasonable as a treat once a while.
