Each year, I am on the lookout for the one and only calendar featuring the late Venerable Buddhadasa where the numbers are in Thai eg ๐, ๑, ๒, ๓, ๔, ๕, ๖, ๗, ๘, ๙.
Finally, I saw this calendar in a Naiin bookstore and proceeded to buy it straightaway. The calendar cost 89 baht:
I used to visit Thailand frequently around December hence I am always on the lookout for this calendar which I would use as a desktop calendar in my office (view an older article on this). It sort of force me to remember the numbers in Thai since I am always trying to improve my Tha langauge.
This year for 2020, the calendar is in green colour with the theme “Genuine Happiness: Must Stop Running Around the World”. The saying is actually very profound. Below is the cover:
The calendar comes in a sort of 3-in-1 packaging. First, the actual table calendar, and packaging material for the calendar can be extended into a wall calendar and then a little bookmark. 89baht is reasonable since the this is the only calendar I see in Thailand that carries the dates not in the usual numbers of 1,2,3 but uses Thai numerical.
A sample of the month for January 2020:
The calendar now is on my bedside table where I use it to write down important dates and to do. For example my mom’s medical appointments and reminder to pay bills (different bills have different due dates). I have a monthly planner as well as a diary which I bought from B2S bookstore earlier but realize I needed a table calendar for me just with the important dates plotted out. My monthly planner now contains a lot of other jottings like blog planning and planned/happened activities which I am worried may cause me to overlook important dates or things to do.
And with the Thai numerical, it forces me to be familiar with the Thai number system. Nowadays I am able to remember most of the numbers in Thai and feel familiar with them thanks to the calendar.
At the back, it contains some writings by Venerable Buddhadasa with the bookmark that is provided:
Below is the packaging that can be extended as a wall calendar. I have hang out this in my room as well to provide the dates at a glance:
