There is a very famous and iconic Buddha statue that is known all over the world located at Wat Mahathat วัดมหาธาตุ Ayutthaya. This iconic statue of the Buddha’s head is often featured in various photographs:
All that remained of this sandstone Buddha image is part of its head, while the body had disappeared. The head is in the style of the Ayutthaya period. It lies beneath a Bodhi tree beside the minor Wihans.
Wat Mahathat covers a huge area- do take time to explore around the area.
