There are currently 5 provinces on lockdown in Thailand due to the surge of covid-19 cases. There are Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Samut Sakhon and Trat. There have been reports that people with IC indicating they are from Samut Sakhon were denied boarding for flights and buses. So, for those from these provinces would need to stay put for now.
During the end of December 2020 when the spike of cases were detected in the Mahachai seafood market, many rushed to stock up their food and supplies.
More and more shops are not opened. Departmental stores and outlets are being temporary closed down in places where locals who have tested positive had visited after a few workers were tested positive as well for Covid-19 based on interaction with these infected individuals.
Now many stores are deserted with very few people. Large hypermarkets and markets where used to be bustling with visitors are now quiet. It is sad to see the spike again when previously it was brought well under control. Hopefully with lockdown measures implemented by the government, we would see the situation being contained soon.
I’ve come across this YouTube channel, The Thaiger that is now providing update news report for the English speaking community who is currently staying in Thailand or for those who are interested in the current situation in Thailand:
